New Horizons Senior Program

Great Success in supporting Seniors across the NWT

The United Way NWT has supported the Government of Canada in administering COVID-19 relief funding to organizations across the NWT. Two federal programs, the New Horizons for Seniors program and the Emergency Community Support Fund, were used to deliver $125,000 in funding to 29 organizations supporting seniors and their caregivers in 24 different communities. These recipients are listed below. These funds will support a range of activities: delivering food hampers and fresh greenhouse produce to alleviate food insecurity; providing gardening supplies, books, coffee and gift cards to local businesses, or upgrading wifi coverage to support mental health and wellbeing; or building fire pits and teepees to provide safe, socially distant areas for visiting with loved ones.

The United Way NWT is proud to be able to contribute to the good work that these organizations will be undertaking, and to be able support to the Government of Canada in responding to the concerns and needs of our NWT seniors and their caregivers.

The United Way NWT is continuing to support the needs of NWTers through the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, through our Together We Are Strong Campaign, undertaken in partnership with the Yellowknife Community Foundation. Please visit the link to find more information on donating or applying.
