Volunteer Opportunities

The United Way's role is to match the resources of the community to those areas of greatest need. We do this through our fundraising efforts, but also by encouraging people to volunteer their time with a community group who is need. We have canvassed our recipients and the following are looking for volunteers. If you interested please contact them directly: 

GirlSpace (YWCA) is always looking for female volunteers. The groups run Monday-Thursday, from 4-6 pm. For more information: Ashley at ashley@ywcanwt.ca

NWT SPCA is definitely looking for volunteers. They need dog walkers, drivers or delivery people and also someone to help with event planning. For more information: nwtspcayk@gmail.com

Canadian Hard of Hearing Association – Yellowknife Branch would welcome volunteers, especially those interested in or have a hearing loss. For more information: Esther at ebraden@theedge.ca

YK Food Bank is looking for volunteers to help with packing, delivering, and distributing food baskets. Packing happens biweekly at 5:30pm Wednesday nights at the YK Food Bank warehouse, 6 Coronation Dr. Distribution is biweekly Saturday mornings from Side Door Youth Centre downtown. Food Rescue is looking for people to assist the driver with pick-ups and deliveries (they operate week days), and people who could commit one full day a week to help with inventory and packing for deliveries. For more information: Marg at margh@theedge.ca
